Jayalalithaa
was the most celebrated and prominent heroine of Tamil, Telugu and Kannada
movies during 60s and 70s. She received praise for her versatility as an actor, dancer and
singer and she earned the sobriquet of “The Queen of Indian Cinema”. Though she
had entered the movie field reluctantly, upon the urging of her mother to
support the family, Jayalalithaa worked prolifically. She appeared in 135 films between 1961 and
1980 and she joined politics in 1982, her political rise was rapid; within a
few years she became AIADMK propaganda secretary and was elected to the Rajya Sabha, and became the youngest
and the first woman chief minister of Tamilnadu.
The book which has
divided into two parts as ‘ammu’ and ‘amma’, describes the story of
Jayalalithaa from her birth to death. Her childhood name was ammu; when she
entered into politics and became the popular leader she was fondly revered as
‘amma’. Her life was full of retaliations, challenges, feuds and of the unexpected
successes too. The book depicts the
tempestuous life through the volume of 300 hundred pages.
